A big day for our freshman sire Safeguard

It is always exciting when the new season two year olds commence racing. Even more so this year with our freshman sire Safeguard having three of the ten runners going around tomorrow at Belmont in the Initial Stakes.

Trainer Simon Miller will start the filly Marcee A Lady (Out Spoken Girl by Galileo). She won her 400 metre trial at Lark Hill and ran second over 950 metres at the same track leading into this race.

Trevor Andrews has the filly Miss West Coast (Coast To The Post by Anabaa) engaged – she also won her 400 metre trial and ran second over 1000 metres at Belmont.

The third runner for Safeguard is another filly trained by promising young trainer Martin Allan named Sauvegarde (Adorara by Silver Hawk), who has only been seen once at the trials running fourth beaten 1.5 lengths at Belmont.

We expected Safeguard to produce ready to run youngsters given he was a precocious juvenile himself, winning his only two starts as a 2YO including the Group 3 ATC Kindergarden Stakes over 1100 metres.

Safeguard is a son of champion stallion Exceed An Excel out of  the Group 1 winning mare Preserve by super broodmare stallion Canny Lad.

Nice to also see our handy stayer Cappo D’Oro back for another campaign. This 6YO son of Medaglia D’Oro is a winner of four races and was placed in both the Bunbury and Pinjarra Cup last campaign. He will open this campaign when he goes around in the 1600 metre benchmark 72 + event tomorrow.

Good luck to connections.
