Saxophonist outstanding at Ascot
The Fred Kersley trained Saxophonist has won in an outstanding display of turn-of-foot in the Westspeed Two Year Old Plate at Ascot this afternoon. Seemingly out of contention whilst cornering as jockey Paul Harvey struggled to motivate his mount to latch onto the back of the field.
Despite eventually responding, Saxophonist appeared resigned to an attractive finish, whilst One Off The Wood ostensibly with an insurmountable lead into the straight. George ‘N’ Ernie responded well to the blinkers and loomed as the likely threat, with odds-on favourite Essayez weakening from a nice position.
Harvey persuaded the two year old Saxon gelding to take an inside finish along the rails, in a position he failed to finish from last start, beating George ‘N’ Ernie on the post in a remarkable win.
One Of The Wood was game in defeat with all things considered, as the last start winner led up in a scorching 34.82 seconds for the first 600 metres.
Saxophonist won in 1.10.63, winning by a half-head.
