The Fred Kersley-trained Blackwood has capitalised on the late scratching of pre-race favourite Perfect Reflection to take out the Listed Burgess Queen Stakes (1400m) at Ascot.
Blackwood settled a lot closer to the speed in the Listed feature then what she did in the Belgravia Stakes on October 21, and it proved to be a masterstroke from jockey Lucy Warwick as the filly stormed to a one-and-a-half length victory.
Showy Chloe put in a bold front-running display throughout the 1400m event, but couldn’t match Blackwood in the closing stages and finished third.
Arcadia Dream stormed home from last on the home turn to run a credible third, while Spirit Bird finished fourth.
Blackwood won in a time 1.25.96 for the 1400m, and took her record to five wins and a third from six starts.
