Three for three for our exciting 2YO filly Blackwood.
Perth Racing reports
The Fred Kersley-trained Blackwood has kept her faultless record intact, after taking out the Westspeed Plate (1400m) at Belmont Park this afternoon in devastating fashion.
Jockey Lucy Warwick decided to peel out three-wide approaching the turn, after she settled the filly slightly worse than midfield throughout the race.
When Warwick asked the two-year-old for an effort she produced an outstanding turn-of-foot to run away and win by seven-and-a-half lengths.
Black Cuban ran on well from well back in the field to finish second, while the talented Regal Gleam continued her honest start to her racing career finishing third.
After the race, Kersley said he was surprised at the ease with which the filly won.
“I wasn’t super confident,” he said.
“I thought she might have lacked a little bit of race fitness, and I am surprised by the winning margin.
Kersley said he would likely give Blackwood one more start before he sent the filly out for a spell.
Meanwhile, Warwick’s win on Blackwood was the first leg of a running double for the in-form apprentice, after she came out and won the second event on Dubai Escapade, trained by her father Justin.
