A terrific win by our diminutive filly Daishio on Saturday at Belmont. She could very well be the smallest horse racing in Western Australia, but she has proven she has a big heart and very brave.
Starting favourite she was well ridden by apprentice Brodie Kirby. She sprung the gates and Brodie allowed a couple to go around her which placed her third on the fence in running. Once straightening she was able to come around the heels of the leaders and sprinted strongly hitting the front 150 metres from home and ran away to win by 2.9 lengths.
She is a 3Y0 daughter of the young Darley stallion Kuroshio, a son of Exceed An Excel, who will stand the 2019 season in Ireland. Her dam is the Oakland Park bred Daina (Quest For Fame). Daishio is her first foal. Oakland Park has half – sister and half – brother to her by resident stallion Sessions coming through the system.
Daishio’s record now stands at 13 starts for 3 wins, 3 seconds, 1 third and $176,660 in prize money and bonuses.
