Great to score an Oakland Park double at Belmont. North Ridge continues to improve with each run.
Perth Racing reports
Talented three-year-old North Ridge has once again produced an impressive performance to take out the Westspeed Handicap (1400m) at Belmont Park this afternoon.
North Ridge has been in outstanding form this preparation, and won here on May 23 against a lot of the rivals he beat today.
Paul Harvey settled the galloper slightly worse than midfield, as Liberty’s Gem was given no respite piloting the field.
Pre-race favourite Top Show was also given a very good run in transit, but had a little bit of difficulty finding a run in the straight.
Liberty’s Gem fought on hard in the straight, but couldn’t hold off a late burst from North Ridge, as Harvey timed his run to perfection and completed the second leg of Kersley’s double, after Blackwood won earlier in the day.
After the race, Kersley said he was very surprised by North Ridge’s win, given he had to carry 5kg more than his win here on May 23.
“I was super impressed,” he said.
“I was a little surprised with this win because I honestly thought the weight would beat him.
The win took North Ridge’s record to three wins from five starts and more than $118,000 in prizemoney.
