Oakland Park winner on Northerly Stakes Day

The Oakland Park team were thrilled to win a race on the race day named in honour of our champion galloper Northerly and made even more special with the first running of the famous Ascot 1800 metre Group 1 event (formerly the Kingston Town) renamed the Northerly Stakes.

As if it was written in the script for the day, Via Monte, our Street Boss 4Yo gelding proved too strong taking out the Tabtouch Better your Bet Handicap over 1200 metres second up this campaign flying the Oakland Park colours.

Via Monte had no luck first up at Northam where he was held up in running. On Saturday he jumped cleanly and with the aid of a good ride by Brad Rawiller he was able to push forward to sit second outside the leader. The leader kicked on straightening and Brad asked him for an effort, and he dug deep to chase the leader hitting the lead at around the 150-metre mark and held on strongly.

The win takes his race record to 15 starts for 3 wins, 6 seconds and 1 third and prizemoney and bonuses of $189,100.
