Oakland Park’s No Song No Supper Wins Grand Annual Steeplechase

Another first for Oakland Park Stud, with the very game win of No Song No Supper in the famous Grand Annual Steeplechase at Warrnambool yesterday.

As the Herald Sun reported, “Warrnambool’s signature jumps race, the Grand Annual Steeplechase, is never won by a horse that doesn’t have plenty of ticker — as No Song No Supper proved again on Thursday”.

We bought his dam Deep Time in utero with the hope we would produce a smart stayer on the flat. However, with the decision of Perth Racing to reduce the amount of staying events, we moved him to Patrick Payne in Melbourne after a couple of educational campaigns with Fred Kersley.

The Grand Annual Steeplechase is a gruelling 5500m and 33 jumps, a real test of stamina. At the turn he was looking strong but was challenged by Bold Zamour inside the final 200 metres and it took sheer guts by No Song No Supper to dig deep and come back and win.

No Song No Supper has now won at 1400m, 2107m, 2350m, 2410m, 2428m, 3000m, 3200m, 3218m, 3300m, 3340m, 3486m, 5500m – 9 wins on the flat and 3 wins over jumps.

No Song No Supper is the full brother to Sydney Cup winner No Wing No Song and half-brother to our 3YO Cappo D’Oro.
