Belmont Park Love Continues

Five-year-old gelding Operational has continued his love for the Belmont Park track with a win on Saturday in the Westspeed Stayers’ Handicap.

Having not won since January, the gelding added his seventh victory from sixteen starts on the winter track in Western Australia.

With only four runners, Operational was positioned in second outside the leader by apprentice jockey Mitchell Pateman.

The positions didn’t change until the bend when the speed increased as Drive West came around the outside of the field.

Pateman shook the Fred Kersley-trained galloper up at the top of the straight and he responded immediately setting his mind on the task.

Running the last 600 metres in a time of 00.35.20, Operational was able to hold off a determined Fancy Feet by a long neck.
