Patient Parnham blows them away on Via Monte
Oakland Park’s Via Monte has continued his consistent form this preparation, taking out the 1110m Happy Birthday Fergo Handicap at Ascot on Saturday.
With an extreme hot pace set by the odds on favourite Baby Blue Jean, Chris Parnham had the son of Street Boss perfectly positioned in the run.
Entering the straight, the leader still had a 4 length gap to the second placed horse with Parham getting Via Monte going, just off that horse’s heels.
200 hundred out the leader still had a 3 length lead, but 100 out that was gone with Via Monte blowing past the tiring leader before going on to a dominate win.
After the win trainer Danny Morton said he was quietly confident of the win today, saying he didn’t think Via Monte handled the straight track of Pinjarra last start.
Via Monte’s record now is 2 wins and 5 second placings from only 9 starts.
