Supersession – Winner of the Week
Durrant Racing claimed a double at Pinjarra on Saturday with staying specialist Soviet Spy (Blackfriars) and untapped 3yo Supersession (Sessions).
“With the Perth Magic Millions on our doorstep, the stable double arrived just in time,” Adam Durrant said tongue in cheek. “Supersession handled the jump in class from a Belmont midweek maiden to a Saturday with no issues. He’s now won two from three starts”
Supersession angled wide into the home turn and held off the late challenge of Kiwi-bred colt Prawns Eleven (Super Easy) to score by a half-length. “He’s been beating Saturday horses at home so we knew he had the ability,” Durrant admitted. “I was happy to give him another easy kill but the owners were adamant about coming here and they were right!”
Westspeed Platinum was also a factor with connections pocketing $73,000 in prizemoney and bonuses. He races for a partnership managed by breeder John Blackburn.
As his named suggests, Supersession is by Oakland Park sire Sessions and his dam Talk Of Angels won a Geelong juvenile for trainer Peter Moody before transferring west to add another half-dozen victories in the Great Southern for Durrant and Paul Hunter
He had impressed jockey Clint Johnston-Porter when coming from last to fill a place on debut at Belmont in January. “He’s a quality horse and gave me a good feel first-up. He had them covered that quick today he started looking for friend in the straight. I have high hopes for him going through the grades.”
Talk Of Angels has a yearling filly by Sessions named Supernatural and she was bred back to him in September. Her page goes way back to the famed “Belle” family in New Zealand.
