Toppa The Mountain makes it 26 winners for Sessions

Congratulations to our long-time supporter Neil MacDonald with the win of the 2YO Sessions gelding Toppa The Mountain on Saturday in the Own the Dream 2021 Launch Plate on Saturday at Ascot.

Neil has raced many horses with Oakland Park, including Shengmu (by Fath), the dam of Toppa The Mountain.

Trained by Dan Morton, this promising son of Oakland Park’s Sessions was having his second race start. On debut he ran sixth beaten 5.7 lengths to Oakland Park’s exciting 2YO Policiere. He was very new that day as reported by the Stewards, he was fractious in the barrier prior to the start and laid inwards on straightening with the rider having to stop riding him in straight.

The stable was confident he was going to be very competitive on Saturday. He jumped well and went forward. Jockey Paul Harvey was able to get him across to fence and follow the favourite. Upon straightening he bounded past the favourite who capitulated quickly which was not ideal as it exposed him to early in the straight. Paul said he got a little lost once he got to the front and is still very green but was able to hold on gamely to score in a nail biter.

Toppa The Mountain became Sessions 26th individual winner from 42 starters, which takes his winners to runners’ ratio to 61%.

Toppa The Mountain’s win again highlights the benefits of buying Western Australian Westspeed yearlings, with him banking $82,000 for the win made up of $41,300 first prize and $40,000 Westspeed bonus.

The win also showcases Sessions versatility as a stallion, capable of producing two-year-old winners that will develop into quality three-year-old’s and beyond. His progeny has won from 1000 metres to 2400 metres.
